It now seems to be fashionable for some financial institutions to declare that their core business has shifted and is now sales. I first heard it from a very senior manager in one of Jamaica’s largest banks a few months ago and more recently from several smaller institutions in the financial services sector.
It’s been a long time since I left banking and I know I’m out of touch, but this “new” core business of a bank leaves me wondering if some bankers have lost their way. So here’s my question: Do you feel comfortable when your bank tells you that their core business is now sales? Or is there some doubt that expediency may lead to imprudence?
Shall we discuss?
